raspberry chocolate

Spring came!  Actually, summer came!!  Just for a short visit, but it was fantastic.  It may be that that short burst of 80-degree weather spoiled the next few weeks when things dropped down to the 40s... but that's looking into the future; let's not do that here.  It was a beautiful, sun-shining, warm warm day with spring flowers popping open, and kitties and lys running around happily in the outdoors.

argyle schoolgirly

Hiiiiii!!  I'm back with an update.  I have absolutely no good reasons for not having updated in the last two weeks or whatever, but thank you for sticking with me anyway.

I wore this outfit after reading a super-cute volume of a manga series (The Secret Notes of Lady Kanoko) and wanting to dress a little school-girly.  Hurray for argyle and pleated skirts!!

Also, some old-new posts.  They'd been finished for a while, but I didn't get around to posting them because I didn't have any new-new posts to mention them with.  Three from July; two Septembers.

leanin' lys

Another day of sweaterdress! And I think this is the first time in like forever that I wore these green socks with the argyle actually showing—usually you only see the plain green feet.  [edit: no, it's not the first time, forgetful-lys.]

I attempted a french braid again, only I did it when my hair was wet.  That way works better than with dry hair.

tigerlionduckdrummer

shirt - In Vain (Kohl's)
skirt - Old Navy

It's been a while, but here's another friend-fashion post!
Kids are awesome, aren't they?  I was over at this boy's house when he decided to dress up and started roaring through the house. He's so funny.

The duck mask fits him better than it fits me... (she says, from experience.)

sorta split complements

cami - American Eagle
tshirt - Mossimo (Target)
scarf - self-knit
skirt - Weathervane
tights - JC Penny
shoes - Apple Bottom
earrings - Forever21

Colour-theory outfit day!  This is split complementary (which is when you take two complements, say red and green, and then choose the colours directly adjacent on the colour wheel to one of them—so  redviolet, redorange, and green), mostly, although the cami might go a little too far into purple.  But theory is just theory; what matters is that it looks good, right?

So that's today's art/colour lesson.  As someone who could spend hours organizing giant Crayola boxes of crayons into perfect rainbow order and still has memories of the day she learned the colour wheel in an elementary school art class, I love this topic and its practical application (or was that already obvious?).  I hope you enjoyed it too!!

red earrings - f21

Fleur-de-lys socks!  That is all.

(I forgot to finish a part of this drawing too.  Darn it...)

fluffy skirts for all!

Sorry for being a slacker with the last outfit.  Here's a nice fun outfit to make up for it!  Fluffy skirts make everything better, right?  I realized later the olive-dark pink colour scheme rather resembles the last outfit.

I've been using my brother's tablet to colour these last few posts.  I haven't determined whether it's faster or not, but it's really fun!  And I like not having to change my brush size when I want to colour a small area—I just don't press as hard with the tablet pen.  (Stylus? whatever it's called.)  Maybe someday I'll be skilled enough to actually draw with the tablet.  For now I still prefer pencil and paper for that.

christmas decoratin'

Saturday evening was spent with the family (minus one, plus two), decorating the Christmas tree!  Yay!! It was nice to go back home and be a part of that.  My own tree is very small and still rather sparse in the ornament (and light) department.  But our family's Christmas tree is packed with lights and ornaments and happiness!!

This year it was my turn to hang the Dancing Cow ornament, the treasure of our collection.  It's a wooden cow with a pull-string that makes his arms and legs move, and was one of the first ornaments my parents got for their tree.  There was also a hunt to find the paper fan angel with a photo of my brother's 8(?)-year-old face, another (slightly) more recent treasure.

caffeine-silly

I figured out something good while doing the dots on this shirt! After doing the dots on another day's first and getting tired of it, I decided to copy-paste a chunk of screentone from a page of the manga I'm lettering* and invert the colour (so the black dots became white) and plop it on top. Instant-dots! Hurrah! So easy!!

Anyway, on this day I had a peppermint-mocha latte and did some crafty stuff with friends.  It was fun, but after I got home, I realized I had waaaaaaay too much energy and could barely think straight.  Is my caffeine-tolerance that low?

*(for anyone who didn't understand that—manga refers to Japanese comics, and many of them use screentone, which is a black-and-white pattern that, when printed, creates shades of grey (or other designs) on a printed page. sometimes the dots are close together to create a dark grey; sometimes farther apart to create a light grey shade.)
