almost-vday

sweater - Takeout
both skirts - Wet Seal

Almost Valentine's Day!!  I get really excited about this holiday every year. I can only blame all those happy childhood memories of Valentine's Day parties in elementary school.  Maybe it's my love for sweets.  Or my love for pink, for lace and frills and hearts. In any case, I love it.

sorta split complements

cami - American Eagle
tshirt - Mossimo (Target)
scarf - self-knit
skirt - Weathervane
tights - JC Penny
shoes - Apple Bottom
earrings - Forever21

Colour-theory outfit day!  This is split complementary (which is when you take two complements, say red and green, and then choose the colours directly adjacent on the colour wheel to one of them—so  redviolet, redorange, and green), mostly, although the cami might go a little too far into purple.  But theory is just theory; what matters is that it looks good, right?

So that's today's art/colour lesson.  As someone who could spend hours organizing giant Crayola boxes of crayons into perfect rainbow order and still has memories of the day she learned the colour wheel in an elementary school art class, I love this topic and its practical application (or was that already obvious?).  I hope you enjoyed it too!!

rebellious hair

sweater and shirt - Old Navy
capris - UnionBay
socks - Sock It To Me (SockDreams)
shoes - Apple Bottoms

Why do you look worried, lys?  I wonder...  Maybe because I wasn't happy with my hair.  It's going through a phase, you see.  Rebellious and all that.  One day it'll grow up and learn to be more responsible...

sparkling new year

Happy New Year's Eeeeeve!!

That's sparkling juice, by the way. Champagne tastes gross. To match the juice, I also wore sparkly earrings and sparkly shoes! Hurrah!

Hope everyone has a great 2011! I'll do my best to keep drawing and posting fashion into 2012!!

no cookies

Oh look, it's another grey dress!

This was a day of much running around... and then sitting at home wishing I were better at planning ahead.  I got it into my head at 11pm that I should make eggnog cookies to bring to the family gathering on Sunday, but found I needed at least one more egg than I had, and couldn't reach my brother to have him pick some up for me (he was later dropped off at our house by a police officer! at 4am! because he had locked himself out of his car. scared me out of my wits, seriously).  But the frantic weekend is over now, and as of today (Tuesday) I have acquired eggs and made cookies.  Hooray!

material fascination

So I went to the fabric store.  It turned into a both wonderful and torturous experience, as I found myself surrounded by countless lovely colours and patterns and all manner of prettiness... but I couldn't exactly take every pretty thing I saw back home with me.  I didn't even have a very good idea of what I might do with most of the pretty I found—I've done a little sewing in the past, but I'm easily distracted and never stick with things.  And yet!  The pretty!!  Cute, classic floral prints; Japanesque novelties; batik; colourful retro designs!!  Ooooh!

Eventually I got what I needed and narrowed down my choices of what I wanted (the designs up above were all purchased as fat quarters, so whatever I make of them will have to be fairly small.  but on the other hand, they were super cheap!) and managed to tear myself away from the place.  But I want to go back again...

So if anyone has ideas for small fabric projects I could make of these, please share them!

dramatic colourless lys

I am trying out posting just the sketches, no colour.  It's not as exciting, but at least I can keep up this way.  If you feel inclined to colour them yourselves, go ahead! (and let me see too :D)  At this point I think most of the things I wear have been worn in previous posts, but if you're unsure about the colours, just make it up however you like!

[jan 2011 edit: i couldn't stand it; the lack of colour was making me sad.  so now it's in colour, along with the others I originally posted in b/w.]

fancy girl

I have been waiting for the right moment to wear this necklace—I ordered it from Forever21's website a couple weeks ago and when it arrived it was even more glitzy than it looked online.  So it was a little harder to integrate into my everyday-wear...

My aunt's church put together an "Iron Chef"-style baking competition and had it filmed at a local TV studio.  My mum and I got to watch and cheer my aunt on!!  They called themselves "Dueling Divas" and the chefs all wore sparkly tiaras and crowns.  So my sparkle wasn't so out of place!  One of the teams even wore feather boas... until the competition started, of course.

interpretive mermaid

Eheheh. And what happens when you eat candy and cookies and a caramel apple and stay up late? Sugar-zombie-death the next day, that's what. Let this be a lesson to you all. I'm sorry, mum. You taught me better than this!!

(but it was totally deliciously worth it... :D)

For actual-halloween, I didn't dress up too outrageously. I had a super cool idea, but Halloween fell on a Sunday and it would've been weird to wear to church. And I didn't have any plans for after church (beyond eating something vaguely healthy and taking a nap), so wearing it around the house by myself would've been a waste. So I'll have to save it for next year... or another time when I get the urge to dress up fabulously.

shoes that sparkle

These shoes!! The shoes!!!!  They are amazing, fabulous, glittery sparkly magical high-top shoes. I found them at AJ Wright in the clearance section (never been in that store before, probably never will again...) and my first reaction was something like shock, disbelief, and a twinge of horror at the ridiculous shoes before me. But seconds later I'd fallen in love with the sparkle and bling and couldn't put them down. I think it was fate. (even though they're a size too big. but they lace up tight so it's okay!) Sooooooo awesome shoes!!!! I don't think this drawing does them justice.  But they are fantastic.

By the way! I added some more posts for past months—it may or may not be obvious, but I started this blog about a week and a half ago, and I've been filling in past daily fashions as I get them coloured.  I've been keeping a fashion journal sketchbook since mid-May, but most of the drawings were not originally coloured until recently.  So it's a work in progress.  Anyway, these posts are new:
