earthquake day

On this Friday, I woke up and got to work like any other morning... until I heard the news about the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.  The rest of the day, I was not very productive (from a work-perspective), spending my time instead checking up on all the news I could find and praying for everyone affected.  Even now, a little over two weeks later, part of me is constantly thinking about the people in Japan doing their best to get through this disaster.  It's hard, being so far away and reading the news and wishing there were more I could do to help... (like, take a plane over right now and help with rebuilding/cleaning.  not exactly the most practical, but...)

sparkly and comfy

I got myself motivated and scanned my skirt (it sounds strange, but that's what I did) so I could use the pattern here.  And while I was at it, I finished two more drawings that used the skirt! (and one that just shared a sketchbook page.)  Yayyyy, I'll get them all posted someday!!

The mother-of-pearl earrings were a Christmas gift from my aunt, who got them at a WAR Chest boutique (apparently they only have stores locally, but you can also shop online).  It's run by a really neat organization aimed at rescuing women at risk all over the world and providing them with ways to become self-sufficient in their communities.  The blue pair I wore on Sunday came from there too.  They are gorgeous earrings, and it's a good feeling to know they were made with a greater purpose and not just pumped out of a factory somewhere!

reach for your dreams

I started this with the thought, "I want to do a drawing from behind..." It's really fun to draw feet from the back—that's the entire reason I like drawing people facing away.  But I didn't have anything specific in mind beyond the feet, so the rest was just whatever happened to happen on the paper.  And that was this.

I cheated on the light pink shirt and used Photoshop's butterfly brush to do the pattern.  But you can hardly see it anyway, under all that lace!
