butterflies!

skirt - Wet Seal, when Wet Seal had tons of awesome
print designs and cute skirts...

My city has this awesome place that I love to go, with a great, huge greenhouse and all kinds of tropical plants (and carnivorous plants, and cacti, and seasonal plants, and...).  In early spring, they bring in all sorts of butterflies and let them loose in the tropical greenhouse.  It's wonderful to roam around in the warm, humid greenhouse-world and spot all kinds of flitting butterflies.  Everyone is especially always after the blue morpho butterfly.  I've gotten a couple shots of them in years past; this year's best was the bluish blur you see in this sketch (the other butterflies are also from photos I took).  I happened to be taking pictures of another resting butterfly when the blue one flitted by, and my camera snapped the picture just as it was in the middle of the screen.  What timing!

Also, please enjoy two more new-old posts featuring this skirt.  One of them features a small commercial.  Have fun!

moon fan

sweater, skirt, tights - Old Navy
socks - SouSou

I was reading this article at AnimeNewsNetwork and the topic was Sailormoon.  Aww!!  It's a great article (and the House of 1000 Manga column in general is really fascinating), and it made me all nostalgic for my very first anime and manga series, so I pulled out my old copies and started browsing.  I used a pose from one of the first volumes for this drawing—with my pleated skirt, it worked out rather well!!

Relatedly, just the other day it was announced that Sailormoon will finally be rereleased here in English with a new translation.  I'm looking forward to it!!

phones and me

sweaters - from Kohl's
skirt - Old Navy
boots - from Target
pig phone charm - some Sanrio-ish store in Chicago

On this particular Friday in February, T-mobile had some deal for free smart phone upgrades going on.  Since my family has a cell plan with them, various of us decided to go check it out.  My current phone was... oh, 4-5 years old, so I thought, maybe I'd find something worth upgrading to.

However, I'm one of those odd ducks who uses her cellphone for phone calls, as a substitute alarm clock, and occasionally for the calculator feature.  I don't text, I don't tweet, I don't browse the internet, I don't even (necessarily need to, though it might be nice to) take pictures with it...  and most importantly, I like cute.  This is problematic, because new phones are not particularly attractive to me.  Sure, they're slick and shiny and new, but they're not cute.  They're just big ol' boring ol' screens.  It's hard to find a new model a cute size, a pretty colour, and (the key point) possessing the little phone-charm-holder-slot.

So of course I found nothing I liked.  But there was a happy outcome even so!  I ended up getting my mum's old phone (she upgraded to a fancy new thing), an identical model to mine phone minus the scratch on the outer screen that always made me sad when I looked at it.  It's cute and a nice colour and my adorable round piggy-charm matches it perfectly!!  I couldn't be happier!

nothing new for the new year

Eheheheh.  Nothing to see here... I spent the night at my parents' and didn't bring a change of clothes, so I had to wear the same thing again.  And then when I got home around 2pm (after the traditional visit to the Bargain Bookstore (they have a half-off-everything sale every New Year's Day)), I didn't feel like changing with half the day already gone and no plans to do anything or go anywhere (aside from a quick run to my friends' place to check on their guinea pigs, and they couldn't care less what I was wearing).  So I just curled up with my blankets and read manga all day.

sparkling new year

Happy New Year's Eeeeeve!!

That's sparkling juice, by the way. Champagne tastes gross. To match the juice, I also wore sparkly earrings and sparkly shoes! Hurrah!

Hope everyone has a great 2011! I'll do my best to keep drawing and posting fashion into 2012!!

christmas decoratin'

Saturday evening was spent with the family (minus one, plus two), decorating the Christmas tree!  Yay!! It was nice to go back home and be a part of that.  My own tree is very small and still rather sparse in the ornament (and light) department.  But our family's Christmas tree is packed with lights and ornaments and happiness!!

This year it was my turn to hang the Dancing Cow ornament, the treasure of our collection.  It's a wooden cow with a pull-string that makes his arms and legs move, and was one of the first ornaments my parents got for their tree.  There was also a hunt to find the paper fan angel with a photo of my brother's 8(?)-year-old face, another (slightly) more recent treasure.

charming, yes?

Another evening spent with the kiddies at church, who were adorable and wild and hilarious.  Yay!!  I actually managed to be cold wearing all this (but then, I had forgotten the armwarmers at home after taking them off to make delicious potato curry for the church's dinner potluck).
